what i write:

Lots of notes, on scraps of paper, in too many notebooks piling up, and in ever expanding online documents for elusive articles in progress. Abstracts and the occasional conference paper. Poems, almost daily, reminders of what I find beautiful or instructive. Very long messages to friends.

why i write:

To slow down enough to allow for the right words to express some racing thoughts. My academic supervisor once warned me that “not everything is connected”. But somehow everything hangs together, or so it feels. Writing helps me choose one thread and see where it might go. Sometimes I write because I hear a word or a sequence of words and then I follow that. I think not paying attention in such moments has consequences.
